Homophobic Bakers Blame Satan For Canceled GoFundMe Campaign

In Depth

Remember Melissa Klein? She’s the baker who loves making wedding cakes so much that she just couldn’t allow herself to disrespect her fondant and piping bag by baking a cake for a gay couple. And then, when a judge ruled that all that was actually illegal, she and her husband blamed Satan for not being allowed to crowdsource donations to pay their fine.

Here’s the thing: Klein and her husband have gotten a lot of publicity out of being openly bigoted and discriminatory. After being sued for refusing to make a cake for a lesbian couple, the Kleins went on a crying tour of America, making themselves out to be the victims in the situation and blaming those god-awful homosexuals for the fact that they had to close down shop and stop doing what they really loved — baking cakes for heterosexual couples only.

While right-wingers may have bought Klein’s sincere tears, a judge didn’t. On Friday, Klein was fined $135,000 for her act of discrimination. That same day, she and her husband started raising money for the outrageous fee. In less than a day, the amount raised hit $109,000. And then, Satan took it all away. Well, he took further donations away. It seems that the $109k the Kleins raised? They get to keep that. It just wasn’t enough for them.

From The New Civil Rights Movement:

GoFundMe says it does not allow money to be raised on their site for people who have been found to be in violation of the law.
“After careful review by our team, we have found the ‘Support Sweet Cakes By Melissa’ campaign to be in violation of our Terms and Conditions,” GoFundMe said in a statement.
“The money raised thus far will still be made available for withdrawal. While a different campaign was recently permitted for a pizzeria in Indiana, no laws were violated and the campaign remained live. However, the subjects of the ‘Support Sweet Cakes By Melissa’ campaign have been formally charged by local authorities and found to be in violation of Oregon state law concerning discriminatory acts. Accordingly, the campaign has been disabled.”

So it’s not like GoFundMe even took anything from them that they’d already received. They just didn’t want the Kleins to use their platform to collect more money for something that had been ruled illegal. Sounds like a pretty mild “bow down” the the gaystapo, if you ask me.

The Kleins were quick to point out that the fines they were being forced to pay were not the work of a system that’s at least trying to get to a state of equality, but the work of the devil himself.

They posted this on Facebook:

“Evidently Go fund me has shut down our Go fund me page and will not let us raise any money. Satan’s really at work but I know our God has a plan and wins in the end!”

Commenters disagreed: One wrote asking why the Kleins were so upset about GoFundMe canceling their fundraiser when the site was doing the same thing the Kleins had done, refusing the use of their product for something they didn’t agree with. Another encouraged potential donors to consider giving money to a more worthwhile cause.
